Faculty Common Core Presentation and Answers to your Questions!
Hello Everyone -

First, thank you for allowing Pam, Karen and I to visit with you all and share the information we have on The Common Core State Standards and implementation.  We promised that we would share the PowerPoint online with you after everyone had seen it (this will be the first time for the high school) and also take all the Post-Its with questions you had about the Common Core and SBAC assessments and answer them.  We will send an email attachment with these as well.  Please feel free to connect with us or any member of the Implementation Committees with questions that you still have.

Professional Development Committee
The CESU PD Committee met last month and brainstormed what they felt was the main purpose of teacher professional development:  These points included:
  • Relevancy
  • Collaboration and reflection time
  • Improved Student Learning
  • Staying Current on Best Practices
  • Student Engagement
  • Utilizing technology tools for integration into curriculum
They felt the best methods for Professional Development to be effective were:
  • vertical teams learning together
  • input from staff - having voice
  • job-embedded
  • based on staff and self evaluations
  • reflection and time to synthesize
We will be reviewing our vision statement based on these premises at our next meeting on November 8th and create a plan for assessing the value of PD opportunities and feedback loops that will assure quality and valued professional development in the district.

Administrative Professional Development
Our Administrative Team continues to incorporate Learning Walks in teams throughout the buildings as part of their professional development around student learning and student engagement.  Many are using iPads that have apps to help them observe student discussion time versus teacher talk time and the rigor level of questions students are thinking about.
